St Valentines Day, Festival of the Matchmakers

There are as many eight possible origins of Valentine, and the three most likely have been challenged the first church all the martyrs. But before the holy Christians, the day began as a festival to honor Juno, the queen of Roman gods. Juno is the sister and wife of Jupiter, mother of March, and one of the largest in the Roman Pantheon. It has many roles, each with an associate degree, as a protection of the Roman city was Juno Regina, an adviser to the point of marriage as Juno Moneta, and a Roman goddess of women and child birth, Juno Lucina. From its title, Juno Moneta, we have the word money because the Roman mint was built near one of their temples. For most of the Romans was a protection of women as the goddess of marriage and fertility, and all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, the day was on February 14 and the next day was the occasion of the Feast of Lupercalia. Lupercalia began on the ides of February. Members of Lupercio, an order of Roman priests, who meet in the sacred cave where children Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome, is suspected of having been supported by a wolf or swelling. Priests and then offer a goat, fertility and a dog, for purification. The young men then decided on the goat skin in strips, the crossing of sacrifice and blood in the streets, tapping on women and fields of crops with strips goathide to promote fertility in the years come. Lupercalia was also hailed as a youth festival of love with a new set of queries. Just before the feast of Lupercalia the names of eligible girls of Rome has been written about the final score of paper and placed in bottles. Each young people want to appeal to a young girl named launcher and the two partners will be the duration of the festival. In 496 CE, Pope Gelasius changed the date of the Feast of Lupercalia Valentine's Day, February 14 Linking research in part with the martyrdom of Valentine was convenient because the days are almost identical. Therefore, traditionally in mid-February was a Roman time to meet the judiciary and future colleagues. More than one hundred fifteen years later, we continue the tradition in the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine.
